Unless you’ve been living in a bubble all your life you know the world isn’t what it’s supposed to be. Even if you were living in a bubble you’d probably figure out you’re not what you’re supposed to be. But a fallen world and a fallen you is not the end of God’s plan. The theme for YXL Horn Creek 2018 will be All Things New, taken from Jesus’ proclamation in Revelation 21:5:
5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
In 2017 our theme Exiles helped us understand our life on earth before Jesus returns as one where we live as exiles and sojourners, part of God’s kingdom, spreading his kingdom, but still living in a world that doesn’t yet recognize Jesus as king. It’s in this context that Peter speaks to us as “elect” exiles and reminds us not to be surprised at the “fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as if something strange were happening to you.” He says “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:1, 1:13 and 4:12).
It seemed fitting after considering our lives in exile, to turn our eyes to the the time when Jesus will be revealed and will make all things new. Our evening speaker, Ryan Anderson, will point us to power of this promise and help us see how we can live today in hope of the world to come.
